The prospect of spending the summer away from my Mississauga home brought lots of excitement, and a few trepidations about things I would miss. At the top of the list: my cats, Abbey and Nala... I mean, MY FAMILY OF COURSE, my swimming pool, and Niagara Peaches, which I begin eating by the basket on August 1st and only stop when my tongue turns itself to peach fuzz. I've managed well enough, swimming in the bay and visiting with various adorable NWT doggos, and my family is visiting (yay!) but the peaches... it's a problem. Today, I made several compensating discoveries: 1) in the NWT we eat rhubarb in August; 2) if you're lucky, the rhubarb will grow all summer, and 3) there is a patch of rhubarb IN MY FRONT YARD. So. My question is this: is it acceptable to eat rhubarb crisp for supper? I mean, I live alone. Who would know? It's not like I'm publishing it on the internet or anything...

But seriously... I miss these girls more than peaches...

This past week has been devoted to the Old Town Ramble & Ride, as well as spending time with my aunt (my mom's other sister) and cousin who have been visiting. My cousin lived here for several years, and judging by the time I have spent with her, knows approximately every single person in town. It's been so much fun to explore the town from her perspective, and meet a bunch of new friends. Ramble & Ride is a street festival with craft vendors, art activities, special exhibits, and lots and lots of music. I had the incredible pleasure of hearing Sechile Sedare (also known as Leela and Jay Gilday), Prime Time, Ice Rodeo, Ryan McCord, and the NWT Pipe Band, just to name a few. There's great talent in this town, and incredible to witness it on display. Also, I'm a little sleepy after a few too many late nights... but so worth it.

I'm off to eat the crisp that just came out of the oven, and I DEFINITELY had a healthy balanced dinner beforehand.
Yummmmmmm.....
