Last week, I did a new thing - I spent two days in silence and solitude, on a silent retreat. I'll confess that I did not undertake this entirely willingly. Though it's been suggested to me for years, and some of my colleagues rave about how great they are, silent retreats scare me silly. I'm an extroverted, chatty musician who really, really likes words. I wasn't convinced that I could handle two days, "just me and God." But, it's a requirement of my doctoral program, so off I went. Not only did I survive it, I didn't have a terrible time! It was intense and scary and joyful and beautiful.

And, there were TURKEYS! (and a labyrinth, and lots of other cool stuff, too).
